Our community has a dynamic and diverse<br>economic base that includes forestry and milling, hydropower, railway, highway transportation,<br>destination tourism, backcountry recreation, arts, culture and much more. Revelstoke is a<br>desirable international destination known for its amazing all-season outdoor mountain recreation<br>in summer and winter.<\/p>\n<p>Our Community Radio Journalist will produce a broad range of general<br>stories that reflect our community. Stoke FM\u2019s mission since our inception has been to bring<br>\u201cunity to the community\u201d by featuring our community\u2019s diverse voices and sounds on our<br>airwaves. Our new Community Radio Journalist will contribute to our mission by creating and<br>sharing relevant and timely audio and multimedia stories that connect our community.<\/p>\n<h3>The LJI program<\/h3>\n<p>The Stoke FM Community Radio Journalist will report on a range of community issues with a<br>broad focus on local-level civic issues and affairs. Generally, you will produce a story on a daily<br>basis for the air and share it through our digital platforms. You will also perform other<br>journalism-based programming assignments such as creating, recording and scheduling daily<br>news and community information briefs.<\/p>\n<p>Your Revelstoke-focused local reporting is in partnership with the Local Journalism Initiative,<br>which provides national-level exposure opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) program was launched by the Community Radio Fund of<br>Canada and funded by the Government of Canada. The program is focusing on diverse, local<br>communities that may be underserved in the Canadian news landscape. The goal is to increase<br>the production of community and civic news in those areas and to make that news more<br>accessible across the country. We\u2019re elevating original, local community news.<\/p>\n<h3>Stoke FM Community Radio Journalist position<\/h3>\n<p>\u25cf Title: Community Radio Journalist<br>\u25cf Term: 12-month contract position, with potential opportunity to renew<br>\u25cf Salary: $24 per hour, 36 hours per week.<br>\u25cf Ideal Start Date: April, 2022<br>\u25cf Expected working hours: Weekdays, with schedule flexibility for weekend reporting as<br>necessary<\/p>\n<h3>Job Requirements \u2013 Who You Are<\/h3>\n<p>\u25cf Hold a degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications or Arts from an accredited<br>academic or technical institution OR have equivalent experience in broadcast,<br>print\/digital journalism or writing (minimum 5 years of journalistic\/radio experience).<br>\u25cf Excellent radio, interview and communication skills<br>\u25cf Excellent writing skills and research. You love storytelling \u2013 from the initial pitch to the<br>publication<br>\u25cf Strong people skills: You are a great listener, speaker and interviewer<br>\u25cf Deadline-driven and have an eye for detail<br>\u25cf Knowledge of community and regional concerns or news and a passion for local<br>journalism<br>\u25cf Strong skills in both a team setting and with independent work<br>\u25cf Audio production skills and understanding of the radio-community environment<br>\u25cf Critical thinking and ability to analyze issues and to remain impartial<br>\u25cf Social media savvy, for both posting and research purposes<br>Other qualifications\/requirements<br>\u25cf Understanding with diversity, different perspectives and sensitive\/complex issues.<br>\u25cf Desire to drive news and interest in reporting on a range of topics with a core focus on<br>community issues and civic affairs.<br>\u25cf Attend editorial meetings with station and LJI coordinators as needed.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re looking for a dynamic, determined journalist who cares about local, community and civic<br>journalism.<\/p>\n<p>If that sounds like you, please apply to Stoke FM Radio Society Executive Director, Jace<br>Preenan, by emailing to <a href=\"mailto:info@stokefm.com\">info@stokefm.com<\/a> with a cover letter describing why you want to work<br>at the station, a current resume and a few examples of your work, either submitted by email or<br>with organized portfolio links.<\/p>\n<p>Stoke FM Radio Society encourages applications from a diverse range of candidates, including<br>(but not limited to) women, BIPOC individuals, those who identify as LGBTQ+, and people<br>living with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your interest.
