Area restriction, evacuation alert remain in place for Shelter Bay
An area restriction from Cranberry Creek to Shelter Bay remains in place as of Tuesday, July 23 due to the Dry Creek wildfire, which the BC Wildfire Service continues to list as out of control. The fire, which has grown to 249 hectares in size, is located 35 kilometres south of Revelstoke, and 2.5 kilometres west of the Shelter Bay Ferry terminal.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, an indirect attack strategy is being used as the Dry Creek wildfire originated in steep and inaccessible terrain and is not safe for crews to work on directly.
In an update to its Facebook page, the City of Revelstoke said the BC Wildfire Service has placed a restriction on the area, and the road is closed from Cranberry Forest Service Road in the north to Eagle Bay Campsite. The restriction includes the Shelter Bay Forest Service Road. Detailed information about the Shelter Bay area restriction can be located on the BC Wildfire Service website.
An evacuation alert issued by the City of Revelstoke on behalf of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area B also remains in effect for parts of the Shelter Bay Area.
Areas under evacuation alert include Highway 23 South from Cranberry Creek to Shelter Bay, and Shelter Bay to 12 km on the Shelter Bay Forest Service Road. The Upper Arrow Lake Ferry remains in service.
