CSRD says no to proposed Airport Way tourist accommodation
A proposed tourist accommodation along Airport Way won’t be moving forward.
At its regular meeting on August 15, The Columbia Shuswap Regional District Board of Directors voted against approving two zoning bylaw amendments which would have allowed the owner of a 7.5 hectare property at 4762 Airport Way to create a small tourist accommodation with four tourist cabins and a six-bedroom lodge.
While a staff report supported the application, Electoral Area B director David Brooks-Hill spoke against the application, saying that while there are existing vacation rentals in the area, it is his opinion that the proposed resort would change the character of the neighbourhood.
“So yeah, in my view, you know, this would be appropriate if it was right next to the base of the [Revelstoke Mountain] resort, but to allow a development like this further out from the resort in a residential neighbourhood, would just be promoting more of that, which I don’t think it’s appropriate at this time. Who knows what happened in the future, and maybe eventually it would be appropriate, but I think right now just really would be changing the character of the neighbourhood,” said Brooks-Hill.
