Eri Horie wins Dose Coffee Aeropress Championship Regional Qualifier
Dose Coffee hosted the AeroPress Championship Regional Qualifier at their roastery in the Big Eddy on July 19.
Started by Tim Wendelboe and Tim Varney in 2008, the World AeroPress Championship is a fan-organized competition where competitors face off against one another to see who can brew the best cup of coffee using the AeroPress coffee maker.
While the competition emphasizes fun and is generally laid back, there are rules such as presenting the coffee to the competition’s judges for a blind taste testing in similar cups. Competitors in each round brewi coffee simultaneously and within a time limit, and only using ground coffee and water, with a maximum of 18 grams of coffee allowed in each recipe.Judges make their decision based on what they like the taste of.
Eri Horie, who won the event, will now go on to compete in the national qualifier at Eight Ounce Coffee in Calgary.
Winners from the national qualifiers get a pre-paid ticket to go head to head at the world championship. This year’s World Championship will take place in Lisbon, Portugal.
