UPDATE: Revelstoke RCMP say man meant no harm by offering girl a ride
Updated on September 14 at 1:30 pm
Revelstoke RCMP said in a press release Thursday afternoon that the man in question went into the station Wednesday afternoon to identity himself. He apologized for his actions and poor judgement.
Revelstoke RCMP are warning of what they call a “suspicious occurrence” — at 8:30 on Wednesday morning a man in an older green Jeep-like vehicle drove up to a 12-year old girl as she was walking to school at Oscar and Leach Streets, and offered her a ride.
The girl told her mom, who called the RCMP.
She described the man as being in his mid-30s with a scruffy, short, dark beard and a tanned face. He didn’t get out of the vehicle, and he drove away after he approached her.
RCMP say in a press release they did “extensive patrols” of the area and did not find a man or vehicle matching the girl’s description.
The RCMP notified School District 19 of the occurrence, and all students will be advised of it.
RCMP say for people to call them if they saw or have video footage of the incident. 250-837-5255. Call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or online.
