The News Show Ep. 13: Cabot Pacific tour
Join me as I tell Scott about a tour I took of Revelstoke’s forthcoming golf course: Cabot Pacific. Bradley Allen, the superintendent of the course, took me around the rough dirt tracks in his white truck, showing me his favourite spots. Allen wasn’t comfortable having me record him at all so unfortunately it’s not the audio tour I envisioned.
Rumours were swirling in Revelstoke that Cabot was pulling out of the deal and the course wouldn’t go ahead–Allen said he heard that as well, and it’s not true. Cabot is working with Northlands Property, the company that owns Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Northlands is leasing the resort lands from the province that Cabot is building the course on. Cabot will operate the course, which will include a clubhouse, pro shop and driving range.
Cabot has been in challenged in Revelstoke, Allen said, and the course won’t be opening in 2026 as previously advertised. Allen says simply clearing the land, removing stumps and blasting rocks, is more challenging than he expected. Furthermore, he said getting permitting in B.C. is arduous. Water permits for their irrigation, for example, as well as environmental approval to build above Williamson Lake have taken longer than he’s used to.
Allen says a third party company will be measuring water going into Williamson Lake regularly to make sure the turbidity isn’t too high, and the water isn’t too full of chemicals. Allen says he’s personally sat at kitchen tables in households below the course to discuss residents’ concerns about runoff in their well water.
A few holes may be open next summer, Allen says, while the grand opening will likely be in 2027.
Take a gander at the audio above for all the details.
