Stoke FM Knows BC Hydro’s Warning System, & Fake Hiking Trials on Google Maps
With the rapid fluctuation in water levels through this part of the Columbia River, a number of cars get stranded in various places through our valley every year. However, after a request from a member of the community asking BC Hydro to cut off public access to the flats entirely, BC Hydro has decided that the existing signage should be enough to remind people of the situation, and that they will not be taking any further action.
North Shore BC SAR had to make a rescue this weekend when a hiker followed a non-existent trial from Google Maps. With numerous rescues having to be made in this area, including one in 2021 where the subject did not survive, BCSARA have notified the internet giant of the error several times, to little success.
